Neil Young the Godfather of Grunge.... and Techno!

Support the Bands!

Neil Young started his musical career in the mid-1960's with a number of bands in Canada, before forming Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills. After writing three albums they split up and Neil Young started his solo career. After recruiting Crazy Horse in 1969 he made the critically acclaimed Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere album, which features two lengthy guitar virtuoso classics, "Down By the River" and "Cowgirl In the Sand". However, it was the Harvest album in 1972 that made Young a well known star with his first solo hit "Heart of Gold". During this time he also had considerable success with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Young's subsequent work has moved from genre to genre and he has become one of the most well respected and influential musicians of his generation.

This out of production live video shows Neil Young, commonly known as the Godfather of grunge, live in Berlin in 1982. The legendary Canadian singer-songwriter is as impassioned as ever, performing with his usual mix of distinctive guitar work, and signature falsetto tenor singing voice. The performance exhibits the wide range of musical styles Neil Young experimented with, including the two that he is best known for; folk-esque acoustic rock and ragged electric-charged hard rock, as well as, swing, jazz, rockabilly, country, blues, and electronic music.

In this show he performs some of his classics, "Hey Hey, My My", "Old Man", "Like A Hurricane", “ Cinnamon Girl" and "Needle and the Damage Done", as well as new songs "Transformer Man" and "Computer Age". These new songs showcase Young's new interest at the time, computerized vocals over drum and bass music while still using his usual buzzsaw guitar technique. These innovative newer songs sound much like modern day techno music years before the techno craze began. This live show is definitely not what I expected from "Old Neil", the folk-rock legend; it is interesting viewing nonetheless and is in high quality. Enjoy!
